✦ GEMINIDS METEOR SHOWER 2026 ✦
WISH ON A STAR,NADABET
The King of Meteor Showers at India's Western Frontier. Up to 120 meteors an hour at peak, falling over the open desert of Nadabet, with a thin crescent Moon, crisp winter air and a sky that runs horizon to horizon.
12 – 15 DEC 2026 • 3 NIGHTS / 4 DAYS • NADABET, GUJARAT
The King of Meteor Showers
Most meteor showers are born from comets. The Geminids are different: they're shed by 3200 Phaethon, a mysterious "rock comet" asteroid. Its dense debris produces bright, slow-moving streaks, often tinted yellow, white and even green. And because Gemini rises soon after sunset, the show begins in the evening. No 4 AM alarm needed.
*Zenithal hourly rate. Actual counts vary with weather and sky conditions.
Where India Ends, the Stars Begin
On the far north-western edge of Gujarat, where farmland gives way to the Rann and the BSF keeps watch over the frontier, Nadabet offers something rare: a flat, open horizon in every direction and skies dark enough to lose count of the stars.
Wildlife Interpretation Centre
Our base for the stars: the Forest Department's centre, with exhibits on the region's wildlife.
Home of the Indian Wild Ass
Explore the exhibits on the wildlife of the Rann before the sky takes over.
Border Country
Travel into Nadabet's border-tourism zone, where BSF signboards count down the kilometres to the Zero Line.
Horizon to Horizon
No mountains, no skyline. The flat desert opens up the whole dome of the sky, so fewer meteors slip past unseen.
A Thin Crescent Moon
Less than a quarter Moon on peak night means darker skies, and more of the fainter meteors come out to play.
Winter Wetlands
A guided morning birding walk at the wetland, then return at dusk to stargaze over the water.
Perfect Winter Weather
Sunny days of 30–33°C and crisp, clear nights of 11–13°C. Gujarat's ideal season to sit out under the sky.
Evening-Rise Fireballs
Bright, slow streaks in yellow, white and green, with the show starting right after sunset.
Desert Sunsets
Watch the sun sink into a perfectly flat horizon before the first stars appear.
Learn the Sky, Shoot the Sky
This isn't just a night out. It's a four-day, hands-on astronomy retreat led by Starscapes' expert starguides, built so first-timers and seasoned photographers both go home with something extraordinary.
The Peak-Night Meteor Watch
Canopied seating under an open sky, from 9:30 PM until about 2:30 AM. Find the Geminid radiant, then lie back and count, with hot chai in one hand and hot chocolate in the other.
How to Shoot the Geminids
A dedicated briefing on camera settings, framing and time-lapse techniques, plus astrophotography lessons, so you capture the streaks and not just the memory.
Astronomy Master Class
A one-hour session after sunset on Day 1: what meteor showers are, where the Geminids come from, and how to read the winter sky.
Telescope Sky Tours
Guided tours of stars, constellations, planets and deep-sky objects through Starscapes telescopes, including a second stargazing night over the wetland.
Solar Observation
See our own star up close, safely, through telescopes fitted with proper solar filters.
Rocket Workshop & Astro Games
Hands-on rocketry, propulsion and space exploration, plus quizzes and group games. A favourite with kids and grown-ups alike.

4-Day Itinerary
Arrival at Tharad · Desert Sunset · Astronomy Master Class
Meet the group at Ahmedabad Airport by 11 AM and drive to Tharad, where Hotel Shivay International is your base for the trip. Check in, freshen up and rest, then head out to Nadabet to watch the sun sink into a perfectly flat desert horizon. As the first stars appear, join a one-hour Astronomy Master Class and astrophotography briefing at the Wildlife Interpretation Centre. Dinner, then back to Hotel Shivay, Tharad for the night.
Wetlands by Day, Meteors by Night
A birding walk at the wetland, followed by the rocket workshop and hands-on astronomy activities. Rest up through the afternoon; you'll want the energy. After dinner comes the "How to Shoot the Geminids" briefing, then at 9:30 PM we head out to the observation site, where our team has everything set up and waiting.
Sun, Rockets & Wetland Stars
Sleep in after the big night, with brunch at 11 AM. Then look at the Sun through filtered telescopes, launch into the rocket workshop and enjoy a slow afternoon. Catch one more desert sunset before a guided stargazing session at the wetland, with the sky mirrored in the water. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Departure
Breakfast, a farewell wrap-up with the Starscapes team, and check-out. Head home with a heart full of stars and a camera full of meteors.
☁️ Clear-sky plan, cloudy-sky plan: astronomy depends on the weather, so every session is built to flex. If clouds roll in, our starguides switch to an indoor digital sky tour and interactive sessions, and move observation windows to catch every clear gap.
