Imagine meteors streaking above you, reflected on endless white salt — and nothing else but silence and sky.
This December, return to India’s largest inland salt lake for one of the most dazzling celestial displays of the year — the Geminids Meteor Shower. Known for producing up to 120 multi-coloured meteors per hour at its peak, the Geminids are one of the most reliable and brilliant meteor showers in the northern sky.
Last time, we spent the night lying on the salt flats — no lights, no distractions — just watching streak after streak light up the darkness. We’re doing it again. Come wish upon a falling star under the clearest skies you’ll ever see.
Settle into the stillness of Sambhar’s salt flats as the sky comes alive. With no mountains or trees to block your view, you’ll have a full 360° panorama of the night sky — perfect for watching meteors blaze across the heavens. Guided commentary from our expert StarGuides will help you understand the origins of the Geminids and how to observe them best.
Telescopic Stargazing
While the meteors dance above, powerful telescopes will bring deep sky objects into focus — star clusters, Jupiter, and Saturn may also be visible in the early night hours. Our StarGuides will be there to answer questions and point out constellations throughout the evening.
Night Photography & Light Painting
Sambhar’s vast, mirror-like salt pans offer a surreal foreground for night photography. Whether you’re a DSLR enthusiast or using your phone, we’ll guide you on how to shoot meteors, star trails, and creative light painting shots in one of India’s most photogenic locations.
Where You’ll Be
Located just 80 km from Jaipur, Sambhar Lake is the largest saltwater lake in India — a vast white plain that turns otherworldly under moonlight and starlight. The lake bed stretches across the horizon, creating a surreal, flat canvas where light and sky merge.
In December, the dry season makes conditions ideal: cloudless skies, zero humidity, and no light pollution. It’s one of the best natural amphitheaters in the country to experience a meteor shower in total darkness.
By day, explore the shimmering salt fields, spot flamingoes and other migratory birds, and learn about the ancient salt-making heritage of the region.
