When was the last time you saw the Milky Way with your own eyes? Not through a screen. Not in a photo. But really saw it — stretching across the night sky, spilling stars over the Himalayas, glowing quietly in the dark.
This May, escape the city lights and chase starlight in Kausani — one of India’s most breathtaking dark-sky locations. Over three days, you’ll learn how to photograph the galaxy, observe distant planets, and explore the cosmos through professional telescopes — all with the snow-capped Himalayas as your backdrop.
Whether you’re just starting out or already experimenting with astrophotography, this workshop is your invitation to step into the night, look up, and remember how small — and how full of wonder — the world really is.
What You’ll Do
Astrophotography Masterclass
Learn to capture the galactic core, star trails and other deep sky objects from expert astrophotographers. You’ll learn composition, camera settings, light painting, stacking, and post-processing — tailored for both beginners and intermediate photographers.
Celestial Shows
Under expert supervision and through large-aperture telescopes at our pilot observatory, view galaxies, nebulae, star clusters and planets up close. Participate in solar observation, telescope handling, learn optics and more!
Night Sky Navigation
Learn how to use star maps, planispheres, laser pointers, and ancient techniques to identify constellations, star patterns, and celestial myths from our experienced StarGuides.
Where You’ll Be
Nestled in the Kumaon Himalayas, Kausani sits at 1,890m with sweeping views of snow-covered peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Panchachuli.
Walk through organic tea gardens & visit historic sites like the Anasakti Ashram, Laxmi Ashram or Baijnath Temple complex. Hike to the Rudradhari waterfall at sunrise, walk through the Sumitranandan Pant Museum at sunset; or just revel in forgotten forest trails and spot Himalayan and migratory bird species in one of the world’s most beautiful landscapes.
Each night will be spentunder skies rated Bortle 3, far from light pollution and city noise; the perfect return to nature.
