Celestial Hour
One hour. One astronomer. One universe to explore
A live webinar series for everyone who has ever looked up and wanted to know more, hosted by the people who do.

A/Prof. Michelle Cluver
Associate Professor, Swinburne University of Technology
A/Prof. Michelle Cluver is a researcher and lecturer in the Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing (Swinburne University of Technology), where she uses space-based mid-infrared imaging to study nearby galaxies and how they evolve within the Cosmic Web. She joined Swinburne in 2018 as an ARC Future Fellow having obtained a PhD in Astronomy from the University of Cape Town, followed by postdoctoral research positions at the Spitzer Science Center (California Institute for Technology), the Australian Astronomical Observatory, and in South Africa (as a NRF Research Career Advancement Fellow).
Her research focuses on galaxy evolution, particularly how galaxies transition from actively star-forming systems to quiescent states within group and compact group environments. She currently co-leads the 4MOST Hemisphere Survey, a large international project which will map close to 6 million galaxies in the local (z<0.1) universe using the European Southern Observatory 4MOST telescope.

Unexpected Discoveries in an Unpredictable Universe
The more we learn about the universe, the more it surprises us. Some of the most exciting discoveries in astronomy weren’t planned, they were uncovered through curiosity, persistence, and a fair amount of unglamorous detective work. In this talk, I’ll share stories of unexpected discoveries, from hidden galaxies lurking behind the Milky Way in the “Zone of Avoidance,” to surprising behaviour in compact galaxy groups, to mysterious clouds of gas we still don’t fully understand. Along the way, I’ll explore what these discoveries teach us about how science really works. With a new generation of powerful telescopes now operating and more on the way, we can expect many more surprises (and many more mysteries!) to come.Date: 03 July 2026

Conversations That Bring the Universe Closer
The universe is 13.8 billion years old, and it is full of mysteries. At Starscapes Experiences, we believe the best way to fall in love with the cosmos is to hear about it from the people who have devoted their lives to it. That’s why we are introducing Celestial hour, a free, live webinar series where eminent astronomers, astrophysicists, and space scientists join us to share their discoveries, and their stories.
Whether you’re an enthusiastic stargazer, a student of science, or simply someone who has looked up at the night sky and felt the pull of something vast, these conversations are for you. Each session is an intimate, unhurried dialogue: part lecture, part storytelling, part live Q&A. No jargon walls. Just real science, real passion, and the kind of perspective that only comes from spending a career looking outward.
From dark-sky expeditions to deep-field imaging, from black hole research to the search for exoplanets, our speakers bring the frontier to you.
