Celestial Hour
One hour. One astronomer. One universe to explore
A live webinar series for everyone who has ever looked up and wanted to know more, hosted by the people who do.

Asst. Prof. Nirupam Roy
Assistant Professor at Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru
Nirupam Roy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, India. After earning his Ph.D. from the National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA-TIFR), India in 2009, he held research positions as a Jansky Fellow (2009-12) at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, USA, and then a Humboldt Fellow (2013-15) at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy in Germany. He worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur (2015-16), before joining IISc in 2016.
Dr. Roy has been awarded the Young Scientist Medal by the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) in 2013, the Laxminarayana & Nagalaxmi Modali award of the Astronomical Society of India (ASI) in 2024, and the Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence fellowship in 2025. He has also served as one of the Ambassador Scientists of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in India during 2018-25. His primary expertise is in the field of radio astronomy, and his research interests include the study of the interstellar medium and star formation, galactic novae, and observational cosmology.

“In My End Is My Beginning”: The Cosmic Cycle of the Stars and the Interstellar Medium
The space between stars is far from empty. Every star in the night sky, including our Sun, was born from the gas and dust filling the space between stars – the Interstellar Medium. The Interstellar Medium (ISM) acts as a cosmic recycling engine: gas cools and condenses to ignite new generations of stars, while dying stars return heavy elements back into interstellar space. In this journey of unraveling the (mostly) invisible, I will provide a broad-brush tour of the interstellar landscape: the life cycle of interstellar material from diffuse gas to shining stars.Date: 11 Sep 2026

Conversations That Bring the Universe Closer
The universe is 13.8 billion years old, and it is full of mysteries. At Starscapes Experiences, we believe the best way to fall in love with the cosmos is to hear about it from the people who have devoted their lives to it. That’s why we are introducing Celestial hour, a free, live webinar series where eminent astronomers, astrophysicists, and space scientists join us to share their discoveries, and their stories.
Whether you’re an enthusiastic stargazer, a student of science, or simply someone who has looked up at the night sky and felt the pull of something vast, these conversations are for you. Each session is an intimate, unhurried dialogue: part lecture, part storytelling, part live Q&A. No jargon walls. Just real science, real passion, and the kind of perspective that only comes from spending a career looking outward.
From dark-sky expeditions to deep-field imaging, from black hole research to the search for exoplanets, our speakers bring the frontier to you.
